So I thought I’d put together a little blog post all about how we have kept those winter bugs (and any other bugs) at bay for the past 5/6 months.
Up until the end of the summer we haven’t really been big vitamin takers, along with any other supplements or probiotics etc…But my mum has recently done lots of research into healing the gut and helping herself heal from within due to a number of problems she has recently had. So with all this knew knowledge she has started to help me get the right things for us to take and keep our immune systems strong, and ready to fight those nasty bugs that wipe you out!
We haven’t changed our diets or only added a few little tricks to the pot.
Firstly the kiddies…
They have the recommended dose of Vitabiotics Wellbaby multivit near enough every morning. I don’t buy anything other than that, because it holds the best amounts of the different vitamins and also doesn’t have an sugars in it unlike some of the other children vits. Betsie also takes 5 drops of an NHS healthy start vitamin and then they have a spray of D2 K3 apple vitamin spray and I put a sachet of probiotics in their water bottles for the day. We also have a super smelling On Guard protective blend scent that we roll on our wrists or throats. This was made up by mum and her amazing selection of essential oils. It’s amazing for killing germs and because it’s got nothing but goodness in letting it soak into your blood stream is fine.
They therefore haven’t really had any illnesses. Bo has had the chicken pox yes, but such a viral colds etc we’ve done pretty well. Betsie literally hasn’t been ill for god knows how long and I would 100% put it down to the steps we have been taking. Bo has picked up a few colds, the most recent one started from teething and that always leads to a snotty nose, which in turn lead to other nasties and he ended up with a bit of a temp and a bad cough, but only once the past 5 months can I remember that it has lead from a runny nose to anything more sinister.
Curt is pretty rubbish at eating vegetables and therefore his general immune system is pretty shocking. He has seemed to pick up a fair few colds etc recently. So I bought him a packet of probiotic tablets (same brand as ours, couldn’t be sachets though as they taste funny…you can’t taste anything!!) but that’s Curt all over and enchinatia tablets (the drops are much better but again they taste like earth, so he’s having tablets) He also takes stuff at work and some defence tablets, but I don’t actually know what they are. I’m hoping they have helped a little bit, maybe not made illnesses last as long?! I know he needs to get his diet on track too and that will help massively.
Me…I like feeling healthy and strong and having a good diet is always key in my eyes. My diet isn’t horrendous, I have days where I literally could eat all the chocolate and naughtiness in sight and days when it doesn’t really bother me. I always start the day with a good breakfast, it could be better but I don’t have cereal. Granola and greek yoghurt full of seeds and fruit, or porridge with crushed banana, stewed apples etc cooked with oat milk. Sometimes if I’m in a rush I’ll just have stewed apples with cinnamon. Super tasty and good for the gut. Once I’m home from the school run I like to have my Golden milk, which is made with coconut milk, turmeric paste (made by mum) cinnamon and some honey! I’ve just recently bought a milk frother too, which has made the world of difference to it. It’s literally the tastiest thing ever now! I haven’t ever been a tea or coffee drinker, so I haven’t had to replace anything, just get into the routine of having something instead.
In terms of vits etc, I have a sachet of my probiotics in my water and 15 drops of Echinatia also in my water. I have actually forgotten to buy my vitamins for ages, so I’ve just been taking that and then more recently introduced the D2 K3 spray. But I haven’t (touch wood) had anything for aggress! Things are clearly working and we have come through the winter months pretty well. Feeling fresh everyday makes a big difference to the weeks and I’m so pleased with how much we’ve been able to get done.
I will continue taking everything listed above as well as introducing some healthier food once the weather starts to warm up, I always feel it’s easier to eat salads when it’s warm outside!
I hope this has been helpful to anyone reading it. We are one healthy household and I’d love to spread that instead of germs! If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask me. xXx
