The Minbie bottle has to be the cleverest thing I’ve come across in while…it’s a special bottle designed for breastfed babies as the teat is designed to be shaped like a nipple. I first saw this on Facebook, with Mums getting great success after trying lots of different bottles for their babies of different ages, so I thought it would definitely be worth trying out for our little pudding as our first attempt at a bottle was not great at all and he was screaming, spluttering and looking at me like ‘what the hell are you trying to give me woman!’
I was very kindly sent the Minbie to try with two different speed teats. We have the XS (extra slow) and the 1 (slow) teats as Bodie is still only young and I’m not really too sure how fast my flow is, but with the experience of the last bottle (Betsie’s old ones) we thought we should try the slower teats so the poor boy isn’t choked again! We have tried it out three times now just to make sure he’s okay taking it and yes after a little ‘what is this’ he happily took his milk. We tried him first with the XS teat and 2oz of my frozen milk and that went down a treat, so then we tried him with some expressed milk from an earlier feed again with the XS teat, however it took him so so so long to drink he only managed 3oz of a 6oz feed before he fell asleep. So we knew he would need the number 1 teat for next time. I left Daddy with around 3oz of milk whilst I went out to netball (this is the real reason to get him taking a bottle…so Mummy can have a little ‘me’ time) He wouldn’t necessarily need the milk, but it was there just in case he woke up. He managed to sleep until I got home, but after a quick feed on me I thought I’d top him up with the remaining milk, as I absolutely hate pouring it down the sink! He took it brilliantly, no fuss, no messing, just latched like he does on the boob. It didn’t take him too long either, so I think he prefers that teat much more!
I’m so thrilled we have a bottle he’s happy to take, it just gives you that reassurance incase Mummys boobies aren’t around!
Thank you Minbie for creating something so clever!
