Well I’ve got to admit it, I feel very happy and proud to be writing this post as a Mummy to two beautiful children. Our first ever siblings post, let’s hope I can keep it up and post one every month.
At the start of June, the 9th to be exact, we became a family of four. Was I scared about having a newborn again, not at all. If anything we were so so excited and for me personally by the end of the pregnancy slightly desperate, but that’s because things had become so hot and heavy!
Betsie was totally ‘with it’ throughout my pregnancy, she just got it and understood what was going happen from the beginning. This made things so easy in terms of what mummy could and couldn’t do any more, and amazingly she never questioned it. She loved my bump and constantly kissed it, we’d have long conversations about what he would be like and whether he’d look like Betsie. We would try and include her in anything we did for ‘the baby’, such as choosing a colour to paint his room, I’d always get Bets to tell people his name if they asked and I think those little things really helped her welcome him more.
Their first meeting was unbelievably gorgeous and a moment I will never forget. I think I actually got a tear in my eye and if you know me, that’s something very special! Her little face was totally beaming when she walked into our room to see him and we could tell instantly that she was going to be the best big sister. They had a gorgeous cuddle together and I just sat watching her hold him and seeing how comfortable she was with him was just amazing.
Since being home nothing has changed, she is completely in love…She cannot leave him alone, which in some senses is super cute, but sometimes I’ve got to admit it gets a little intense. She wants to give him a kiss and a cuddle literally every 2 seconds and hold him when he’s not sick! ha Her little thing that she always says to us to describe how much she loves someone, is by loving them in a certain sized heart…So Bodie is loved in a ginormous love heart and to the aliens and back. So so cute!
There hasn’t been an ounce of jealousy, just pure helpfulness to both Curt & I. I think she feels a sense of pride when she is asked to help us get something for him. She always comes back from her ‘job’ and instantly HAS to give him a kiss and a cuddle. I’ve got to mention her ‘baby’ voice too…This is totally cracking us up, every time she talks to him she changes her voice into this little mousey squeaky voice, one that most people use to talk to babies…yeah you know the one! It’s brilliant, she’s obviously mimicking me but I don’t hear it myself! Ha
I think little man is on her wave length, as he looks and listens for her quite intently and when having his nappy changed, something he isn’t super keen on, she seems to be able to calm him down. She sits next to him, holds his hand and if needed his dodee in his mouth, then she strokes her cheek on his and it really seems to soothe him.
I absolutely love the bond they already have and can’t wait to watch them grow up together.
