So just recently my Mum & Dad treated Bets (and us of course) to a special over night stay in Alton Towers. We were staying at the Splash Landings hotel and would get entry to the park, mainly just CBeebies Land as everything else is closed at this time of year, a meet with Santa and the elves, Cinderella in panto followed by Christmas dinner and then a swim the next day.
We were all very excited about this little trip, Bets literally couldn’t wait to go. We had told her a little about what to expect and what was there and seeing her little face light up at each stage of the day was just ace. We didn’t arrive too early as we know that CBeebies land isn’t massive and it wouldn’t take us long to go round, so late afternoon we checked in and set off on the Christmas bus to the park.
We were so lucky with the weather, as it had been pretty grim the day before and did say it was going to be raining again all day, but luckily for us it was cold and dry, a perfect combination for visiting Santa. She loved the rides and had a great time running around them all and bumping into characters for a cuddle. We couldn’t believe how brave she was, you know kids can get a little scared by giant characters, but Bets was okay and happy to have her picture taken with them. Her favourite ride was the Octonauts rollercoaster. She’s just like her Mummy when it comes to thrill rides…we just love them! On her third go round she even dared herself to put her hands in the air the whole way round…Such a big girl, I got a great video of her screaming ha
Once it had gone darker it was our turn to visit Santa. A lovely Mr Elf took us through a maze of Christmas trees all lit up and sparkling, it was so cute. We went into the warmest little house full of presents and there in the corner was the best Santa I think I’ve ever seen…He was ace, Bets sat on my lap as she wasn’t quite sure at the start, but soon warmed up and told him what she would like. He gave her a little present which he said she could open early (mega cheeky grin at me) and then some reindeer food to sprinkle in the garden on Christmas eve. We had a photo with him and then that was that. I absolutely love doing magical christmassy things with her, it makes them so much more special when you have a little one who is totally in ore of it all.
Unfortunately, once we got back to the hotel we found out that within the three Alton towers hotels no where was doing any snacks food other than the Christmas dinner and you could only sit for that at your allocated time. Well the park closed at 5pm and we weren’t given our slot until 7.45pm, which was no good for Bets as she was starving and because so much of the park was closed there weren’t really any food options in there either. The staff weren’t brilliant at helping us out either, so we decided to drive to Alton and get some food in one of the pubs there. We were so thankful we did, because it was absolutely gorgeous and looked a damn sight better than the food in the hotel.
We stuffed our bellies and then hit the sack ready for an early swim and the journey home. We were the first in the pool and had a great time before it got too busy, we literally couldn’t believe how quickly it became so full. Not the greatest of pools for toddlers, and with us having been before I knew we wouldn’t be staying too long. Bets gets pretty bored with it all pretty quick, which non of us complained about as it’s pretty darn chilly in there too! Ha
But overall…A fantastic weekend that my little lady loved and is still talking about. Lots of wonderful memories.
